Mining in this area has a long history. The first recorded mining activity dates back to the mid-1800's and continued through to the 1930's when external factors resulted in the cessation of mining. During this operating period, millions of dollars of gold are estimated to have been recovered. From an operational perspective, the majority of the work was undertaken using either dredge or hydraulic methods.

Gold-bearing gravels from the Defiance Mine were extracted in the summer of 2004 by the Company. Gravel was processed using a conventional, on-site alluvial plant that consisted of: (1) a vibrating grizzly to remove larger materials; (2) a rotating screen and jig to recover free gold from the matrix of the gravels; and (3) a concentrating table (for jig tails) that produced a concentrate for further refining and/or sale.
