Description
The Mine site is located on an alluvial fan which drains Frankfree Canyon, the mouth of which is located one mile to the west of the site. The area is dominated by the Pah Rah mountain range which strikes north-east and is located to the west of the site. The Olinghouse mining district is located along the eastern flanks of the Pah Rah range about three miles west, uphill of the mine, and was the location of the Green Hill mining operations.
The Frankfree alluvial fan is typical of most of northern Nevada’s fans and consists of a gently sloping area of gravels dipping at about seven degrees to the East. Bedrock depths at the mouth of Frankfree Canyon are on the order of a few tens of feet and increase to over 600 feet at the toe of the fan in Dodge Flat some three miles below.
There exists an 80-foot-high volcanic butte immediately to the south of the mine site from the county road and Hooterville area and will assist in abating any noise created by the operation. |
